acceptance testing

Whenever a new rated assembly (your fire door) is installed, an acceptance test must be performed. This 13-point inspection ensures the assembly is ready for use and is retained for the life of the building.

NFPA 80: [5.2.1]

Code requirement states, “Upon completion of the installation, door, shutters, and window assemblies shall be inspected and tested in accordance with 5.2.4.”

NFPA 80: [5.2.3.1]

Code requirement states, “Acceptance testing of fire door and window assemblies shall be performed by a qualified person with knowledge and understanding of the operating components of the type of assembly being subject to testing.

NFPA 80: [3.3.95]

A qualified person is someone by possession of a recognized degree, certificate, professional standing, or skill, and who by knowledge, training, and experience, has demonstrated the ability to deal with the subject matter, the work, or the project.

PERIODIC INSPECTION

Fire Doors need to be inspected annually and a written record of the inspection be kept on file for the Authority Having Jurisdiction. This inspection follows the same 13-point inspection as in the acceptance testing.

Fire doors, shutters, and windows are of no value unless they are properly maintained and closed or are able to close at the time of fire. A periodic inspection and maintenance program should be implemented and should be the responsibility of the property management. We are here to help navigate all the complexities of the code requirements so you can be assured that your fire doors are compliant.

NFPA 80: [5.2.4.1]

Code requirement states, “Periodic inspections and testing shall be performed not less than annually.”
